First, e-mail
me. I'll ask you to send me some photographs. There are some basic
requirements. The photos must be clear and complete (do you know how many photos
crop the tips of cat's ears?). I need to clearly see eye colour, hair colour,
and so on. Sending a few photos is a great idea -- I may ask for additional
photos. I recommend getting someone you love to take the photo: that's the
energy I want to pick up on.
I generally limit my portraits to a maximum of 2 lives (2 people, 1
person + 1 dog, etc.) but of course, more is possible. I have done wedding
parties of a dozen people, but we'll need to talk first (the size and the price
increase). The background does not matter, it's a painting!
I begin by creating a digital
portrait using a pen and tablet, based on our discussions of what you are looking
for. From selecting colours to choosing brushes, it's very much like traditional
painting. Some aspects are different (I can "undo"), but I really do
sit and paint. It's not much different than a novelist using a computer to write
a book: the creativity and work comes from the person, not the computer.
A portrait can take up to 3
weeks, possibly longer depending on how busy I am and how energy is flowing in
and out of my life and my work. If I have just finished a complex piece, or one
completely opposite of what you want, I need a few days to clear myself of that
energy and tap into yours.
The portrait is then sent to 44 Wide,
a gallery and printer. Thomas is a perfectionist. Then in the studio I will check it over thoroughly to make sure I
am satisfied.

The portrait is then stretched, trimmed
to size, distressed and otherwise prepared. It may be matted for a traditional glass frame, depending
on our arrangements.
I will make
arrangements to meet with you again. You'll pay me
the remaining 50% and you will receive your
portrait.
