Places to Go

Places to Go

While seeing things might, for some, be sign of an illness, I will tell you that seeing things, for me, is a sign of wellness. As children, our imaginations are unencumbered by labels. We see what we see: faces in clouds, fish in water stains, monsters in toast. As an adult, it becomes harder to see these things without dismissing them as childish and small-minded. It is not special.

Anyone, we tell ourselves, can see that.

And, as an adult but especially as a visual artist, if it isn’t special, it isn’t worthwhile. But that’s our society filling our minds with doubt, self-importance, telling us we must meet the qualifications of grandeur, or it doesn’t matter. Only when you are strong enough to release that, are you able to even begin to return to the beautiful world of the creative minds we had as children.

And so my photograph of this journey which has taken itself to a mountain, and still…

The journey continues.
